I've been teaching Japanese in the Holmewood School, London as well as privately for more than 10 years.

Most of my students are in secondary school, aiming at taking Japanese GCSE. My GCSE pass rate so far is 100% including grade 9. Some students continue to study further.

I also have students who want to learn basic phrases as well as habits and manners of Japanese people.

I am DBS checked and have undergone multiple SEN and Safeguarding training courses.

My passion

I became aware of SEN (Special Educational Needs) when my son had Selective Mutism between 4 and10 years old. I participated in Selective Mutism workshops conducted by UK leading SLT, Maggie Johnson. Furthermore, I have been an UK representative of Kanmoku-net, which is a Japanese help group for Selective Mutism since 2007.

This summer (2024), I had online English sessions with 3 children aged 11-18 years old in Japan, who suffer from Selective Mutism. They participated happily, and 2 of them spoke to me from the beginning, which I was delighted. It seems foreign languages are easier to overcome the fear of speaking. Also, the small step method of CBT worked well.

The school I am teaching is a special school for students with high functioning ASD. They often have co-existing conditions such as ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD, Selective Mutism, PDA and so on. However, most of my students fulfilled their potentials with GCSE. For example, I was surprised to find that someone with writing dyslexia could spell Japanese alphabets fine. This proves many of the conditions would not be an obstacle to learn Japanese language.
